Wire Operator I

Reports To: Wire Production Coordinator
Location: Mount Vernon Plant

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The position of Wire Operator I is considered an entry level position and consists primarily of tasks that involve bending, cutting, crosswelding or buttwelding wires. This position can usually do basic operations in the department utilizing 1-3 machines. Must follow quality process and procedures as well as order processing procedures. This would require boxing parts, placing boxes or parts onto skids, and performing quality inspections. Mechanical ability is utilized for this position. This position must first complete a six (6) week training evaluation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Responsible for basic operations utilizing machines for assigned tasks. This includes understanding the machine’s capabilities and how to adjust and control the flow of production while maintaining quality of the part.
  2. Responsible for completing setup instructions according to customer’s specifications, description list and/or blueprints.
  3. Responsible for conducting quality inspections on parts prior to shipping through the use of calipers, micrometers, tape measures and/or quality gauges.
  4. Must be able to distinguish wire types and sizes.
  5. Follows assigned production schedule.
  6. Strives to meet or exceed production targets.
  7. Must abide by all safety rules and policies at all times.
  8. Must properly complete production and inspection forms.
  9. Observes assigned working hours and is prompt and dependable.
  10. Achieves certification after 6 weeks of training.
  11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum requirement; general educational background without high school completion, plus 0 to 6 months related experience or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
